A Winter Story Trail

Updated: Feb 11, 2023

‘Tis the season for stories, so I was really pleased to be commissioned to write a short festive tale for A Local Winter Story Trail.

Dedicated to the memory of author Dame Hilary Mantel (who was born in Glossop), the advent trail pairs 24 writers with 24 local businesses, to lead audiences on a literary journey around the town centre. Expect Yuletide yarns and festive fiction a-plenty from the likes of author Mark Henderson, Julie Hesmondhalgh (off Corrie!) and many more.

I was paired with George Street Community Bookshop, just off the high street. It was lovely to be collaborating with them again after my artist residency with the bookshop early in the year. My story – ‘Pogo’s Christmas Wish’ – is inspired by the strange characters you might meet in the bookshop (as well as between the pages) and the idea of escaping into a good story. It’s a dash of my taste for the absurd, mulled with family friendly spices. Hope you enjoy it!

Read my story below, or listen to 'Pogo's Christmas Wish' on Soundcloud.
