During my three-year stint as a Senior Writer with the BBC's digital team, I was a lead writer on the BBC's first ever augmented reality app.
Designed to accompany the TV show of the same name, the BBC Civilisations AR app offers viewers the opportunity to discover and explore a whole world of cultural objects in their own home through the magic of augmented reality. The app allows users to “place” objects in their environment via the device’s camera. They can then use a magic spotlight to hunt for hidden hotspots that reveal the object’s story.
BBC R&D along with Nexus Studios designed and developed the app, with around 30 UK-based museums and galleries submitting artefacts for inclusion.
I worked with the team to develop the app tone of voice, narrative design and content strategy. I also wrote voiceover scripts, object stories, UI copy and onboarding tutorials for the app.
