BAFTA Young Game Designers

Updated: Aug 9

It was such an honour to help judge the first round of this year's BAFTA Young Game Designer awards. The imagination, creativity and ingenuity of young people never ceases to amaze me. It’s going to be hard to select a winner!

As well as being a YGD judge, I also went along with BAFTA to visit a local primary school in Oldham as part of the Young BAFTA Roadshow. They invited me to join their assembly to talk about my work as a Narrative Designer and Writer for Games. It was a real honour, and the children asked so many brilliant questions – they really kept me on my toes. I also got to meet De’Graft Mensah (Newsround) and Kia Pegg (Tracy Beaker), so I was among kids’ telly royalty! (Sadly I had to leave before the school dinners came out, but the cheese pie sounded delicious.)

At a time when it’s feeling really tough to keep going with a career in the games industry, it’s really revitalising to see fresh ideas and perspectives from a bunch of people who are still as enthusiastic as ever about storytelling, world building and play!
